Established in 1937, Dermatology is an academic program of both Wayne State University and the Oakwood Healthcare System. Our mission includes education, patient care, and research.

A major component of the department’s academic mission is teaching medical students, non-dermatology residents, dermatology residents, and dermatologists.

Patient Care

The clinical component of the program currently consists of four major outpatient clinic sites and inpatient services that cover hospitals of the Detroit Medical Center and the Oakwood Healthcare System.  The main clinic is located in Dearborn, Michigan, and offers general dermatology, Mohs surgery, and cosmetic services including laser hair removal.

Research
The Laboratory of Molecular Dermatology in the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute addresses basic and translational sciences in skin cancer with emphasis on malignant melanoma and cutaneous lymphoma.
